This website is for all those players and parents involved in the squad this season.
It’s a fairly simple affair, providing information about the season, prep-work ahead of training session, general tips, tricks and recommendations, plus once we get winning, sharing County Championship results.

SQUAD GOALS
Before you start a journey, you must know where you are going
We have a number of goals for our squad for the 2024/25 season, these are:
1. Ensure every squad members enjoys practice, improves their player qualities, and wants to take part in county hockey next season
2. Help at least 10 players achieve selection in to the Talent Academy Squad next season
3. Place top 5 in the County Championships for our age group
SQUAD EXPECTATIONS
To help us achieve our goals, we have some expectation of our squad players, these are:
- Represent Sussex with pride and dignity
- Be fun, hardworking, willing to listen and keen to learn
- Respect EVERYONE in the squad, including players & coaches
SELECTION OUTCOMES
Following our trials phase, selection has been made for the Sussex Hockey Girls Academy Squad for 2024/25.
Well done to everyone who took part, the process was very competitive with all players scoring well in the various areas of assessment. We assessed players on:
- 1v1 Out-of-possession reaction and defensive skills
- Out-of-possession “Deny Phase” strategy
- In-possession passing skills
- Fitness (Speed & Endurance)
- Theory (Phases & Principles, Highly Skilled Actions and Complete Player Qualitied)
- Game play
For those who did not make the squad this year, you demonastrated you have great potential in hockey, keep going and come back next year.
